Looking grey-t ... Britney Spears
BRITNEY Spears paid tribute to Whitney Houston at a tear-jerking concert held in her honour last night.
Organisers of the Grammy Awards put together the TV special, entitled We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston, in honour of the singer, who drowned in her hotel room bath tub in February.
Taking to the stage in a tight grey dress at the LA event, blonde Britney said the show was a "solemn" occasion.
However, she thanked the iconic superstar by revealing a rendition of Whitney's I Have Nothing as a teenager helped her land a record deal and kick-start her career as a singer.
X Factor judge Britney looked pretty and happy posed with fiancé Jason Trawick backstage at the event.
She posted the picture on Twitter, telling fans: "Backstage at The Whitney Houston Tribute.
"Such a solemn occasion. Jason's doing his best to put a smile on my face. (sic)"
Hours before she wrote about her excitement ahead of taking part in the show.
She said: "Getting ready for the Whitney GRAMMY Salute right now - sounds like it's going to be an incredible event! (sic)"
Stars including Halle Berry, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Cece Winans and Yolanda Adams took part in the special concert, held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Oscar-winning actress Halle kicked off the evening by giving an emotional introduction to the show in front of an audience which included Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, sister-in-law Pat Houston and music mogul Clive Davis.
Halle told the crowd: "She inspired a generation of little girls and women to believe in their own dream and to know that they had within themselves the greatest gift of all.
"I was one of those little girls who then became a woman who never ever, ever, stopped loving Whitney Houston."
Jennifer performed a medley of Whitney's songs including How Will I Know, I'm Every Woman and I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Celine Dion was unable to attend the event and her performance of The Greatest Love Of All was taped in Canada and will be included when the show airs in America next month as a TV special.
