The You Da One singer covered up in the floor-length dress as she headed out for dinner in Santa Monica last night.
Sporting barely-there makeup, the 24-year-old looked deep in thought while glued to her mobile on the evening out.
But the Bajan beauty had little to be sombre about – she is leading thenominations for the 2012 American Music Awards, alongside Nicki Minaj.
The two singers are each in the running for four awards, including Favourite Female Artist.
Rihanna revealed her excitement about her nomination triumph on Twitter, writing: "how rad is this? To God be the glory."
Rihanna has recently been linked to ex Chris Brown, who was arrested for brutally attacking her when they were dating in 2009.
The pair was seen watching a Jay-Z gig – just hours before Chris announced his split from Karrueche Tran last week.
The rapper said in a statement: “I have decided to be single to focus on my career.
"I love Karrueche very much but I don’t want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna.”
